Jared grew up in heartland King country and moved to Opotiki where he was noticed at Opotiki College as a top all round student, and talented artist with a passion for art, design and film making. He joined the Opotiki Youth Mural Project organized by the Opotiki Childrens Art House and became youth leader. In his final years at College he made a documentary called Clean Silver about the work of the Childrens Art Clubs. He worked with Shona Hammond Boys on projects for the community good. He graduated at Auckland University of technology with distinction and before taking a position with the Auckland City Council. Jared was awarded The NZCAHF Emerging Artist of 2011.
